The End–Halloween Mixed Media Canvas created with Powertex

I just love a bit of Halloween Fantasy. Have you seen the FAB new stencil – ‘The End’ - from Powertex? Perfect for Spooky makes.

I used Easy Coat decoupage medium to apply stamped images from the Chocolate Baroque ‘Texture Fragments’ to the background. I also used Easy Structure Paste applied through the stencils and some onto the background and impressed with the stamps for added texture.

No fabric was included in this one but I used a lot of paper cut shapes treated with Transparent Powertex; great for stiffening, gluing and sealing the embellishments.

I hope that you enjoy my spooky scene.

Here is a little sneak peek of my samples. I had so much fun making these.

Daisy Bowl created with Powertex

This was my first attempt at creating a 3D bowl with Powertex. I was really chuffed with the results.

I recycled an old cotton scarf and used the lovely Daisy Moulds to create 3D embellishments from Stone Art clay.

I also added some 3D Sand & Balls plus a few glass seed beads for more texture.

Transparent Poppies card created for Chocolate Baroque

Good morning. Today I am sharing one of my samples for the recent shows on Hochanda featuring the Pretty Poppies and Poppy Meadow stamps from Chocolate Baroque.

I coloured my scene using the fabulous alcohol markers from Chameleon. I simply love the new Color Tops that allow you to blend 2 completely different colours seamlessly – very tricky to do with standard alcohol pens.

Materials:
  • Pretty Poppies, Poppy Meadow, Nature Table, Butterfly Poppy Collage stamp sets
  • 8 X 8 inch card blank, 6.5 inch square card suitable for alcohol ink (I used Velvet Card) and scrap copy paper (to make masks)
  • Inkpads: Versafine (Onyx Black), Distress Ink (Tumbled Glass), Memento Dye Ink (London Fog)
  • WOW embossing powder (Clear Gloss)
  • Zig 2 way glue (temporary adhesive for masks)
  • Alcohol pens (yellow, green, blue, beige and pink): Chameleon Pens (YG3, YL2, BL3) and Color Tops (NU0, PK3)
  • Permanent marker (black)
  • Coloured pencils (black, green and pink/purple)
  • Water based fine tipped pen (light grey)
  • Gel pen (Hybrid Ink - black with metallic red)
  • Stickles glitter glue (Crystal)
How it was done:
  1. The card background was stamped with the honesty stamp and Distress Ink. The corners were stamped with Versafine and the edges blended lightly with Distress Ink.
  2. The foreground poppies were stamped onto copy paper and cut out to create masks. Small dots of zig glue were added to the back and left to dry (turns from blue to clear) to create a temporary stick to hold them in place.
  3. The foreground poppies were stamped with Memento (water based ink that will not bleed when colouring with alcohol ink pens) and then covered with the masks before stamping the background poppies.
  4. The stems were extended where needed by drawing with the fine tipped pen (NB. Make sure it is suitable for colouring with alcohol pens without bleeding – test if unsure).
  5. The image was then coloured with alcohol pens. I love the delicate transparent finish – perfect for delicate poppies. I used the new Chameleon pens with Color Tops. These enable really easy one step blending of one colour into the next. Leaves were coloured with YG3 and NU0 Color Top, Flowers with BL3 and PK3 Color Top, Buds with BL3 and NU0 Color Top, Butterfly with YL2 and and PK3 Color Top.
  6. A little texture and extra shading was added where needed with coloured pencils. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine and heat embossed with clear powder to emphasise. The card was edged with black marker to frame and glued to the card front with 3D foam for added dimension.
  7. The butterfly was stamped with Memento onto a spare scarp of card, coloured with alcohol pens and cut out. To enhance the butterfly details (the grey ink was a bit pale) I overstamped it with Versafine Ink.
  8. A little metallic ink was used on the butterfly and stamens. Further sparkle was added with Stickles glue.

Quick and Easy Thank You card created for Chocolate Baroque

Another quick and easy card for you this morning. Small thank you card created with the Pretty Poppies stamp set. Stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with 'sticky' powder (Wonder Glue Powder). This leaves a tacky residue suitable for adding foils, mica or gilding flakes. I rubbed over with multi coloured gold flakes.

Quick and Easy Fruit Tree Card created for Chocolate Baroque

Another quick and easy card for you today.

This 6 X 6 inch card was created with the Fantasy Woodland along with the verse from the Tall Trees stamp sets. Images were stamped with Vintage Sepia Versafine Ink. Colouring was really quick and easy using watercolour brush pens. A small 'dab' of colour was quickly laid down onto the darker areas of the image, indicated by the stamp detail. A damp brush was then used to draw out the colour giving shading and tonal variation, really quick and easy. The edge of the stamping card was inked with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink and the roughed up using the edge of my scissors. PVA pearls and faux stitching was added. I then added Glossy Accents over the apples for added shine. Just about achievable in 15 mins x.

Quick and Easy Birthday Card created for Chocolate Baroque

Good morning. Today I am sharing a quick and easy card that can be made in under 15 minutes.

I used a offcut from a ready made scalloped edge card (approx. 10 X 10.5cm) for this one. The tree and Sentiment were stamped with Vintage Sepia Versafine Ink from the Fantasy Woodland and Birthday Words stamp sets. The card was edged with a brown alcohol marker and Tattered Rose Distress Ink to frame. Finished with a little copper glitter glue on the leaves for a bit of sparkle.

Spooky Dream Journey created for Chocolate Baroque

This was one of my samples for the recent shows on Hochanda featuring the lovely Fantasy Woodland stamps from Chocolate Baroque. I couldn’t help seeing the pattern for half an eye in one of the tree tops, and so couldn’t resist making something a little dark and spooky. I had a bit of fun with this one.

Materials:
  • Fantasy Woodland and Birthday Words stamp sets
  • Seasonal Elements and Seasonal Journey stencils, plus a texture stencil for ‘scales’
  • 14cm card blank, black card, white stamping card
  • Ink sprays with mica (teal, copper)
  • Texture pastes: Viva Décor Kristall Gel (Hologram glitter and clear gel) and opaque acrylic texture paste (Pebeo Concrete)
  • Gilding wax (copper gold)
  • Acrylic paint (metallic gold and light metallic teal)
  • Alcohol marker (black)
  • Water based inks (red, yellow, teal green)
  • Inkpads: Versafine (Onyx Black), Distress Ink (Scattered Straw), Versamark
  • WOW heat embossing powder (Clear Gloss)
How it was made:
  1. I spritzed the black card with mica sprays.
  2. Background texture was created by applying clear and glitter gel, plus acrylic paint, through the stencil. When dry I applied gilding wax over the scaly texture.
  3. Lettering was created by applying opaque paste through the stencil. I made a bit of a mess as I got some paste seeping under the stencil. When dry I tidied and sharpened up the letter edging by using a black alcohol marker (mess saved).
  4. The edges were stamped and rubbed over with gold acrylic paint.
  5. The text was stamped with Versafine and trimmed away from the full stamp sentiment. Edged with Distress Ink and applied with 3D glue gel.
  6. The eye was created by stamping the tree top twice (turning the stamp 180 degrees) with Versafine. Note the centre needs to be overlapped slightly to create a circle shape. I then cut out using a circle die and used a black marker to colour around the edge and to draw the pointed pupil shape.
  7. The eye was coloured with water based inks and then heat embossed with clear gloss powder. I added several repeat layers of embossing until I got a smooth shiny glass eye effect. Glue to the card with 3D gel.

Autumnal Heart Hanger created for Chocolate Baroque

Good morning. This was another of my recent show samples featuring the Autumn Hedgerow and Nature Table stamps from Chocolate Baroque.

Materials:
How it was made:
  1. The patterned paper was glued to the heart front, a sandpaper block was used to neaten the edges.
  2. The tree was stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Olive powder.
  3. The sentiment was stamped using the moss green watercolour pen. Note: I used only parts of the larger sentiment stamp, colouring just those areas with the pen.
  4. The leaves were stamped around the edge using green and brown watercolour pen.
  5. A little blue mica spray was added to the right hand side. The left hand side was covered with Versamark and embossed with clear powder.
  6. The leaves and autumnal embellishments were stamped onto pale orange card. A little more colour was added with watercolour pens. The images were cut out and shaping was added with a ball tool. Glossy accents added to the fruits. The Autumnal embellishments were attached with 3D glue gel.
  7. Lose glitter and glitter glue were added for extra sparkle.
  8. The quilling flower was cut from pale orange card and rolled up the create the flower. It was embellished with ready made stamens and a bit of glitter glue.
  9. The background decorative heart was cut from copper pearl card and glued to the back. The hanging ribbon was glued between the front and back layers.

Friendship Gives Wings card created for Chocolate Baroque

Good afternoon. This is one of my recent show samples using the Pretty Poppies and Butterfly Poppy Collage stamps from Chocolate Baroque.

Materials:

How it was done:
  1. The poppies were stamped onto watercolour card and the stamps coloured with watercolour markers. I used a stamping press for this project – it is perfect for adding the different colours in layers and repeat stamping perfectly aligning with the previously stamped sections of the image. Similar can be done by applying all the colours needed over the stamp then huffing or very lightly spritzing to ensure that the watercolours are activated (otherwise some areas dry up a bit while working and don’t stamp well).
  2. The card was very lightly spritzed with water to encourage a little bleeding of the stamped image giving a soft watercolour effect. More colour was applied to the foreground poppies, picking up colour and applying with a damp brush.
  3. The sentiment and butterflies were stamped with Versafine. The butterflies were cut out, coloured and lightly shaped for added dimension.
  4. I painted over the butterflies with clear sparkle pen, and added dots of glitter glue on the butterflies and stamens.
  5. Finished with PVA pearls and added Glossy Accents to the butterfly bodies.
