Stitched Painting – Hollyhocks
This one of my stitched paintings of Hollyhocks. The background was painted on fabric and detail was worked in free machine embroidery. This is where you disengage the feed dogs on a sewing machine and freely move the fabric beneath the needle while sewing – like drawing with a sewing machine.
This is a large piece (approx 50 X 70cm) and was quite a challenge for me to get the stitching and thread colours just right to give a realistic looking ‘painting’.
